Special Victims Unit
The Special Victims Unit (SVU) of the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to the prosecution of crimes involving sexual abuse, child abuse, and child endangerment. Led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Christine Murphy, the unit ensures that our most vulnerable victims—especially children—receive the justice and support they deserve.
Types of Cases Handled
The SVU prosecutes sensitive and serious offenses including:
-
Sexual assault and exploitation
-
Physical and emotional child abuse
-
Child endangerment and neglect
-
Offenses involving vulnerable victims, including those with special needs
These cases are often complex and require a trauma-informed approach, close coordination with support agencies, and deep legal expertise.
Our Mission
The Special Victims Unit is guided by three priorities:
-
Protecting the vulnerable
-
Holding perpetrators accountable
-
Restoring a sense of justice and safety for victims and their families
With every case, our goal is to pursue justice while treating victims with the dignity, compassion, and care they deserve.
