Asset Forfeiture Unit

Recovering Proceeds of Crime & Supporting Victims

The Asset Forfeiture Unit of the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office is responsible for identifying, seizing, and securing property that has been obtained through or used in the commission of criminal activity. This specialized unit ensures that criminals are stripped of their profits, tools of their trade, and—when possible—property is returned to the victims.

Purpose & Function

Asset forfeiture serves two core purposes:

    Disrupting Criminal Enterprise

By confiscating proceeds and tools of illegal activity, we cut off financial incentives and reduce the likelihood of repeat offenses. This includes:

    • U.S. currency obtained through criminal means
    • Controlled substances
    • Illegal firearms or weapons
    • Vehicles used in the commission of crimes

    Supporting Victims

In appropriate cases, forfeited property or proceeds can be returned to victims, helping to make them whole and restore what was taken from them.

    County-Wide Coordination

The Asset Forfeiture Unit provides guidance and oversight to all police departments within Northampton County on matters involving:

    • Proper seizure procedures

    • Evidence handling

    • Secure storage of forfeited property

    • Legal compliance throughout the forfeiture process

This ensures that all property seizures are conducted in a lawful, transparent, and coordinated manner across the county.

    Committed to Justice

By removing the profit from crime and holding offenders financially accountable, the Asset Forfeiture Unit plays a vital role in:

    • Deterring future criminal activity

    • Protecting community assets

    • Strengthening the link between justice and restitution

Whether it’s cash, cars, drugs, or weapons—if it was acquired illegally, we ensure it’s removed from circulation and handled appropriately under Pennsylvania law.
