Northampton County District Attorney Stephen G. Baratta announces the arrest of Zachary Warren Barndt, of Bethlehem Township. Barndt is charged with Accidents Involving Death, Homicide by Vehicle, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, and additional offenses stemming from the death of 20-year-old Daniel Maffea, who was riding on the trunk of a moving vehicle operated by Barndt.
On May 22, 2026, at approximately 5:50 pm, the Bethlehem Township Police responded to Madison Boulevard for an initial report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers determined that the victim, Daniel Maffea, was riding on the trunk of a moving white sedan when he fell onto the roadway.
